Since 1987, glycine tomentella hayata and other endangered plants originated locally have been collected for manual cultivation experiments. Research utilities in Taiwan were also consigned to evaluate their properties so as to ensure healthcare capabilities for consumers. Contract farming for glycine tomentella hayata has been adopted between consultant companies and farmers, and the field area has increase from less than 70m2 in 1989 to 6 hectares in 2005. |

In the purpose of enriching the diversity of plants, 10 species of healthcare plant which are of great commercial potentials were introduced into Taiwan; it has been finally proved that, apart from native glycine tomentella hayata, limonium wrightii and rostellularia procumbens, local climatic and soil conditions are also suitable for the cultivation of dioscorea polystachya (yam), ashitaba, bergamot, rhinacanthus nasutus and waternut herb. |

The Institute is currently promoting selected healthcare plants cultivated by local farmers; besides glycine tomentella hayata, limonium wrightii and rostellularia procumbens which are locally originated, yam, bergamot, rhinacanthus nasutus etc. are also popular. In order to achieve diversity in local agricultural products, experiments and R&D are implemented as well for green grass teabags and yam powder, iced yam products to increase farmers’ income. |
